Dominant Species

Tonight a couple friends and I finally got to play Dominant Species from GMT Games. The goal of the game is to protect your species from being wiped out by the coming Ice Age. The game is pretty simple to play but there is a pile of stuff you can do so it may be hard to actually focus on what to do. I was getting pounded for most the game but at the very end I pulled off a stunning win. The components are typical excellent GMT components and the rulebook is very easy to read. Something that I strongly disagree with on the box is the time to play. The box says 2-4 hours. It was our first game but it still took over 6 hours to play. If you do plan on getting it, know that the time is way more than what is on the box. I can't imagine how it's possible to play in 2 hours.

A bit of a break?

Been a bit since I've made a post, so I figured I'd post up what I'm working on. I'm slowly working on some terrain for my 15mm sci-fi (emphasis on slowly).

On my paint table I've got 2 units of Ashigaru heavy infantry for Impetus that are primed and ready for paint. I've been doing some research to choose the paint scheme for my army and I'm hoping to actually start painting in the coming week. There's actually a complete lack of transfers for the various samurai clans. Veni Vidi Vici has transfers for only the Takeda and Sanada clans. The other two clans they have transfers for are not for clans that exist in the Sengoku Jidai period. So I'll probably go with either Takeda or Sanada to start.
Here's the main website I'm using for my heraldry and paint schemes:
Here's a site where someone has painted up an excellent Impetus Samurai army (among other things):

Last of the Galacteers

Tonight I finished the last of my War Rockets, the Galacteer Class 4:

So while I figure out what paint scheme I'm going to use on my samurai, I'm going to work on some sci-fi terrain. I've got 2 Pegasus Chemical Plant kits and 1 Power Plant kit, so I'm planning on making a pretty decent sized refinery complex. Something I have a complete lack of is buildings, so if anyone has any suggestions, I wouldn't mind hearing them.

More War Rockets

Tonight I finished the Galacteer Class 2 and 3 War Rockets. Again these are from Hydra Miniatures. First up is a trio of Class 2's.
And here is a pair of Class 3's:
The only ship I have left is the Galacteer Class 4 and it should be done in the next few days.

After that, I'm not sure what to do next. I am planning on working on some 15mm sci-fi terrain but I think I'm also going to start my 28mm Impetus Samurai army. First thing I have to do is start on a paint scheme. And for the sashimono I think I'm going to order some transfers from
Veni Vidi Vici. If anyone's interested, check out this site for the flags/standards/uniforms of the samurai armies. http://forums.samurai-archives.com/viewtopic.php?t=1638 . I'm probably going to base my schemes off of this site.

First of the Galacteer War Rockets

Tonight I finished the Galacteer Class 1 War Rockets. Theses are from Hydra Miniatures.
The Imperial War Rockets are the classic pulp sci-fi rocket ships whereas the Galacteer ones tend to resemble some sort of space plane.

Next up are the Galacteer Class 2 and 3 War Rockets.

Last night I finished the last of my Imperial War Rocket fleet, the Class 4.
I've really enjoyed painting these figs. Next up is the Galacteer Class 1 War Rockets.
