Samurai Characters & Critters

These are some more figs that I finished a week ago. First up are some 28mm metal Samurai characters from Kingsford Miniatures. First up is Not-Lone Wolf and Cub.

Next is Not-Yojimbo and Not-Zatoichi.

Next up are the critters. These figs are 28mm plastic from Wizkids assorted D&D lines. First up is a Giant Octopus.

Pics aren't the greatest, and as you can see it's very...blue. Next up is a pair of Xorn.

I've already have a bunch more figs ready to post up and I should get them up in the next couple days.

Fig Assortment

Been a while since I've posted, February was a wash, just had stuff on my mind. Looks like I forgot to post up some figs that I did over a month ago. So I'll probably drag this over a couple posts. First up is a pair of 28mm plastic Gricks from Wizkids Nolzur's Marvelous Miniatures D&D range.

Next is a pair of Flumphs from the same Wizkids range.

Next is lone Magmite. This 28mm metal fig is from Northstar Military Figures Frostgrave range.

Here's a size comparison with a 28mm Stargrave Medic.

I also finished a box of Warlord Games Woodlands Indians from their French and Indian War range.

Terrain & Monsters

It's been a slow month and I finally got some stuff done. I've got some terrain pieces done and a few creatures for use in Stargrave. First up is the creatures. The figs are all 28mm plastic figs from Wizkids' D&D Nolzur's Marvelous Miniatures. First up is the Froghemoth.

This fig is big. I'm planning on using it as a Dedfurd in Stargrave. Maybe. The monster in the rules is Large, but it may be too big. We'll see.

Next up is a pair of Leucrotta. I'll use these as Warp Hounds. Paint job is rather meh.

On to terrain. First up is a Games Workshop Shrine of the Aquila.

My rust turned out very bright and I got out of control with it. There's a lot of crap on this building as expected from a GW piece, so it was a bit of a slog to paint.

Last up is a pair of rubbish piles that Terry had printed up for me.

And again I have the same issues as with the GW terrain piece above. I know there's a lot of rust how-to's online but I did not want to go through some 10 stage rust process for a terrain piece. I'll have to come up with something.

Fantasy Monsters

Recently finished up some fantasy monsters. The first three figures are all from Otherworld Miniatures. These figs are all metal. First up is the iron, or in this case bronze, golem.

This figure was ridiculously easy to paint: one coat of bronze, wash and done. The following two figures are a basilisk and a cockatrice.

And the final three figures are plastic trolls from Mantic Games.

On my paint table right now is the giant mentioned in my previous post.

Frostgrave Monsters & Year in Review

Happy New Year, Happy Holidays etc. etc. As the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge is in full swing, my rate of posts for the next few months will be picking up. This post is a small number of fantasy monsters that will be used in Frostgrave. First up is a pair of larger monsters.

This is a Wizkids Umber Hulk and a Reaper Bones Carrion Worm. Both figures were dead easy and quick to paint up. The Umber Hulk could be used as a Devourer (at least I think that was my thought process) and the Carrion Worm could be used as a Giant Worm.

Had a strange occurence with the Worm. I primed it white, it sat for almost two months and when I went to paint it, it was still tacky. Never had that problem with Bones, but this thing wasn't like the other Bones figures, it's kind of . . . rubbery. Weird.

These are a Reaper Bones Blood Demon and a pair of Wizkids Myconids. The Blood Demon could be used as a Vaplorhine and the Myconids will go nicely with my 'official' Violent Fungus.

And lastly are two packs of Reaper metal Dungeon Vermin.
The centipedes could be used as Amplipedes.

As we are now in 2019, I should review what i did this past year compared to what my plans were.
1. 28mm World War II French - complete this army.
I didn't get this completed as I ended up getting a few more things for it. Everything I have left though is scheduled to be completed in the Paint Challenge.
2. 28mm World War II Germans - paint up at least half the figures I currently have.
Completed!
3. Frostgrave - finish all the figures I currently have.
Didn't get this completed but everything I have left though is scheduled to be completed in the Paint Challenge.
4. 54mm War of 1812 - paint up at least 1 unit.
Completed!
5. 28mm Samurai - complete one side.
Didn't get this completed although it's almost done. Maybe another couple bases.
6. 28mm Carthaginians - complete this army so I can eventually start on the Romans.
Again, I didn't get this completed although it's almost done. Maybe another couple bases.
7. Sarissa Terrain - paint up at least some of the Sarissa Precision buildings I have.
Completed! I ended up painting most of them.

So for this year my goals will be almost the same:
1. 28mm World War II French - complete this army.
2. 28mm World War II Germans - complete this army.
3. Frostgrave - finish all the figures I currently have.
4. 54mm War of 1812 - complete all the units that I have left.
5. 28mm Samurai - complete the first army and do at least half of the second army.
6. 28mm Carthaginians - complete this army.
7. Star Wars Legion - complete the core box set (although I have no intention of actually using Legion. I'd like to give the old West End Games miniature rules a go).
8. Terrain - complete all of my unbuilt/unpainted terrain.

Hopefully I can get most of these things done this year. The Paint Challenge will go a long way towards completing these.

Till next time!

Carthage, Monsters and Points

Recently I finished off an eclectic group of figs and pieces. First up is a set of 28mm plastic Carthaginian Citizen Infantry from Victrix. Nice simple figures.

You may notice that the commander has a decal on his shield and no one else does. Well, cover your eyes children, this post is about to get R-rated. I had a nice set of decals for them. They were a set that was designed specifically for this set of figures. They were from Little Big Man Studios so they should be awesome.

The problem with this shield design is the decal has to be cut in half to go on each side of the shield boss. Well, once that was done, it was utterly fucking impossible for me to get the plastic cover off the decals without destroying the goddamn decal itself. So the whole fucking lot went in the bin. I can't believe how shit those decals were. So then I tried painting designs onto the shields. That would've turned out better if I got a drunk lobotomized chimp to do it. At this point one of the figs fell onto the floor and I honestly had to stop myself from just crushing it underfoot. I actually contemplated throwing the lot into the garbage.

So instead I just painted them a couple shades of white. Yuck.

The next set of six figures are metal fantasy figures. First up is a set of monsters.
The figure on the left is a two-headed troll from Reaper Miniatures. Nice figure, although I'm not thrilled on my green paint scheme. The other two figures are a pair of Violent Fungi from North Star Military Figures Frostgrave line.
These human figures from left to right are Hans Bullman from Reaper, Hercules also from Reaper and a Barbarian Chief from the North Star Frostgrave line.

Finally as I'm running a War of 1812 game at our "not Mayday" event this Saturday, I needed some deployment points.
I scrounged these from various bits I had laying around. The barrels I think I got from Michaels, the cannon balls are beads from a necklace, the logs are from an old Italeri set (I think) and the bases themselves were part of the sprue from some MDF set. They came together quite nicely but are obviously only for 54mm. Beside a 28mm figure, the barrels would be monstrous.

Germans & Monsters

Recently I've finished an assortment of 28mm figures. They're a motley collection of early-war Germans and monsters for Frostgrave. Starting with the Germans I have a pair of MG34 LMG teams. These figures are metal and are from Black Tree Design.

Next up is a pair of plastic Sd.Kfz 251/1 Hanomags from Warlord Games.

Onto the monsters. These figures are all metal and are from Reaper Miniatures. First up is a hydra.

And finally is this group of three monsters. From left to right: Undead Troll, Cretus the Minotaur and a Giant Scarab Beetle.

Next up will be some more Germans and I'm not sure what else.
