Stargrave Terrain & Terraforming Mars: AE

Finished some more buildings and barricades this weekend. These pieces are all built from Mantic's sci-fi terrain sets. First up are 5 buildings and a ramp/bridge that I can place anywhere.

Next up is a bunch of barricades made with the same sets.
I've still got another 4 buildings being painted and another 2 that I'm actually waiting parts on as I ran out of connecting pieces.

Also this weekend, I got Terraforming Mars: Area Expedition to the table.
There was three of us playing it and it does seem to be a faster game as compared to full Terraforming Mars. I'm not sure if I like one better than the other. Something I've noticed with Ares Expedition is there's no way to really screw up other players, there's no event attack cards. That being said, the box is set up ready-to-go for card expansions.

The components are really nice as expected. The game does streamline things with regard to resources and you don't have to deal with where to place certain things on Mars. One of my players within 10 seconds noted the similarity to Race for the Galaxy. I noticed that right away from reading the rules. Overall, if you're played full Terraforming Mars, then this game will be a breeze. This game will definitely be finding it's way to my table many times.

Stargrave Terrain

Finished some terrain bits today. First up is a trio of wood piles. These are not for Stargrave but will find use in a French & Indian War game. These are pieces that Terry printed out for me.
They painted up nice and quick.

Next up is some container/crate bases. These are from Mantic's sci-fi terrain piece sets.
Also from the aforementioned sets are these 'engines'.
And finally is the first completed building from said terrain sets.

This paint scheme was a test run to see if it works, and I think it works pretty good. So I've got another 5 buildings almost done painting, 4 more ready for priming/have they're first coat of paint and another 2 under construction.

Terrain & Monsters

It's been a slow month and I finally got some stuff done. I've got some terrain pieces done and a few creatures for use in Stargrave. First up is the creatures. The figs are all 28mm plastic figs from Wizkids' D&D Nolzur's Marvelous Miniatures. First up is the Froghemoth.

This fig is big. I'm planning on using it as a Dedfurd in Stargrave. Maybe. The monster in the rules is Large, but it may be too big. We'll see.

Next up is a pair of Leucrotta. I'll use these as Warp Hounds. Paint job is rather meh.

On to terrain. First up is a Games Workshop Shrine of the Aquila.

My rust turned out very bright and I got out of control with it. There's a lot of crap on this building as expected from a GW piece, so it was a bit of a slog to paint.

Last up is a pair of rubbish piles that Terry had printed up for me.

And again I have the same issues as with the GW terrain piece above. I know there's a lot of rust how-to's online but I did not want to go through some 10 stage rust process for a terrain piece. I'll have to come up with something.

British Regs & Maglev Terrain

Finished a few more French & Indian War figs and some terrain for Stargrave. The figs are 28mm metal figs from North Star Military Figures. These are British Regulars in Campaign Dress.

Next is some terrain. I got these from Chris years and years ago. No idea what they actually are. Some kind of framing thing maybe? Regardless, they've now been made into a pair of maglev tracks.

Each one is 44" long. End to end that should definitely cover most of the table. I have some more of these things but their heights vary. These are the tallest of the lot. Next post will be more terrain with hopefully a few figs.

Terrain Pieces

Been a slow month, what with real life, heat, and other stuff. So what I've completed, I've piled into this one post and it's all terrain. First up is group of computer screens/consoles that Terry had 3D printed off for me.

Next up is a pair of guns that Terry had picked up at a garage sale. These will find use in Star Wars Legion. They're a little bigger than the correct scale but perfectly serviceable.

And finally are the pieces that should definitely find use in Stargrave. These are old GW 40K terrain pieces.

I'm starting to mass a decent collection of these. If only I could find more.

On my paint table right now are some more terrain pieces and I've got a pile of the Mantic terrain kits that I need to assemble and paint. I might be able to stick in a figure or two into the queue and it will probably be creatures for use in Stargrave.

Second Batch of the Year Assortment

This group of figures are the second batch off the paint table this year. First up is this canoe and Frontiersmen. This 28mm piece is from Warlord Games French and Indian War line.

Next up is this English Civil War light gun. This 28mm metal set is also from Warlord Games. This was a nice little piece that assembled and painted up nice and easy.

And finally is this Watchtower. This set is from Games Workshop and I believe I got it in a trade with Bob a few years ago. It sat in the basement for a couple years then moved into my paint room where it sat for a year and now it's finally done!

I've seen the little shack either on the side on situated on top of the tower. I think I prefer it off to the side.

French & Indian War Artillery

Finished some artillery for the French & Indian War French and British forces. Both of these units are metal figs from Sash & Saber. First up is the French 4 lb gun.

The crew was ridiculously easy and quick to paint up. They're nowhere near as fancy as their British counterparts. And here's the British 6 lb and crew.
I also have finished some little bits of terrain. These are all from one of the Mantic Terrain Crates, with the exception of one item.
The one exception are the barrels. I got this piece from Terry and its a 3D printed piece. Painted up quite nice and dead simple.

I've got some WW2 Soviets that are finished and just need to be based. The next thing I'll be painting will be a large batch of Rebel terrorists from the Star Wars Legion core box.

Graveyard and Zombies

Quick post. Finished a few bases of graves. The headstones are from the Mantic Games Undead Gravestalker Deal, which comes with a headstone sprue and enough bits to make a combination of 20 zombies and ghouls. The bases are just CD's. Nice and functional.

And with a graveyard you have to have mobile occupants.

These are the zombies I referenced up top. The ghouls are sitting on my shelf and will be showing up at a later date.

'Til later.
